Crime-fighting New York State attorney general candidate Saritha Komatireddy, who will lock up repeat offenders, create residential facilities for the mentally ill homeless, and root out fraud, received the endorsement of New York Yankees great Mark Teixeira, the five-time Gold Glove first baseman who anchored the Yankees’ 2009 World Series championship team and is now the Republican nominee for Congress in Texas’s 21st District.

Mr. Teixeira delivered his endorsement in a video message to New York voters:

“Hey, New Yorkers, Mark Teixeira here. I’m supporting Saritha Komatireddy to be the next attorney general of the State of New York. New York needs an attorney general who will put public safety over politics and make sure New York State is one of the most prosperous, best places to live in the country. So please vote for Saritha Komatireddy. God bless you, and God bless America.”

Ms. Komatireddy is an award-winning federal prosecutor who has put leaders of ISIS, al Qaeda, and the Sinaloa Drug Cartel in prison. She convicted Mexico’s most senior law enforcement official of working with the cartels to smuggle cocaine into the U.S. She also served her country as chief of staff to the 10,000-person U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. She also served as Counsel to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill investigation and cleanup program. Ms. Komatireddy, 42, a mother of four and a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, has worked for three U.S. Presidents, Democratic and Republican.

“Mark Teixeira spent eight seasons in pinstripes, and he knows what this city is when it works: safe walking, a subway people aren’t afraid to ride, neighborhoods where families stay,” Ms. Komatireddy said. “He’s right that public safety has to come before politics. For seven years, Letitia James has had it backwards. I’m grateful for Mark’s support, and I’ll do what he did at first base: show up every day and get the job done well.”

Mr. Teixeira endorsement come on the heels of a growing roster of law enforcement support for Ms. Komatireddy. Ray Kelly, New York’s longest serving police commissioner, endorsed her, as have forty-two of New York’s county sheriffs and the police unions of the state’s three largest upstate cities: the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association, the Rochester Police Locust Club, and the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association. Ms. Komatireddy had also received endorsements from the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association, two local Transit Workers Unions, and more than 70 state and city legislators, and additional community groups.

If New York isn’t safe, nothing else matters. The only prosecutor running for New York Attorney General.
