Members of the freshman class (’30) of Maria Regina High School began their first year as students of the renowned all-female Catholic high school with a special visit and address by Edith Pattou, author of “East.” Her acclaimed and highly popular novel was named in 2003 an American Library Association Notable Book for Young Adults and selected as a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year.
Over the past summer, the students read the retelling of the classic Norwegian folk tale, “East of the Sun and West of the Sun,” in preparation of hearing directly from the author. Ms. Pattou discussed the background that went into writing “East,” shared her journey as an author and engaged the young readers in a lively Q&A. The students also had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Ms. Pattou who autographed copies of their books so they could cherish the memory of a unique reading and author encounter experience.
