Election Officials and Voting Advocates Answer Legislators’ Questions Ahead of November 3 Vote
The Westchester County Board of Legislators held a bipartisan Committee of the Whole meeting this afternoon to provide residents with information about the upcoming General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Westchester County Board of Elections Commissioners Tajian M. Nelson (D) and Douglas A. Colety (R)outlined election procedures and answered questions from legislators. Kathy Meany, President of the Northwest Westchester League of Women Voters, also addressed the committee, highlighting the League’s voter outreach and education efforts.
Chairman Vedat Gashi (D–New Castle, Ossining, Somers, Yorktown) said, “Voters need clear, reliable information as they prepare for Election Day. Today’s meeting ensured legislators could ask questions in a public forum and residents could hear the answers directly. The discussion covered a range of practical information for voters, including:
- Registration: The deadline is Saturday, October 24. DMV online registrations must be completed by October 23. Eligible residents can also register and vote the same day at any early voting site on October 24.
- Early voting: Early voting runs from October 24 through November 1. Hours are 10 AM–6 PM on weekends; 8 AM–4 PM Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; and 12 PM–8 PM Tuesday and Thursday.
- Voting by mail: Any registered voter can request an early mail ballot without an excuse. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day; the Board recommends mailing early and getting a postmark at the post office. Ballots can also be dropped off at the Board of Elections, any early voting site, or a polling place on Election Day.
- Official election information: The commissioners would like to remind voters that the Westchester County Board of Elections and the New York State Board of Elections are the two official sources for election information and encouraged voters to rely on them for answers.
Board members in attendance were Chairman Vedat Gashi, Vice Chair Terry Clements, Majority Leader Judah Holstein, Majority Whip Shanae Williams, Minority Whip James Nolan and legislators Nancy E. Barr, Tyrae Woodson-Samuels, José I. Alvarado, David T. Imamura, Emiljana Ulaj, and Anant Nambiar.
Those who attended remotely were Minority Leader Margaret A. Cunzio and legislators Jenn Puja, Erika L. Pierce, Colin D. Smith, and Jewel Williams Johnson.
