I want to request a Town Board session to discuss, at a public hearing, the Town Code regarding Senior Exemption 467, to be discussed and amended for senior citizens (65 and older) and disabled residents whose income falls below standard thresholds, to amend the income calculation to include annual IRA withdrawal amounts. Enclosed is a copy of the Town of Bedford’s April 2026 passage of this property tax exemption.

I want to make you aware and would like your feedback. I would like to know if any residents have had issues asking for a public meeting to address concerns and suggestions regarding our community members? I want to make you aware of exemption legislation RP-467 (Senior exemption), which allows up to a 60% tax exemption for citizens and disabled residents whose income falls below standard thresholds, and which I want to amend.
On July 23, 2026, I personally emailed the town assessor, Gary Edward Link, and all the town board members about holding a public hearing regarding this exemption. I have been going back and forth for two months now, with the only person who has addressed it being the assessor. I also sent information and proof that Bedford had a public meeting and actually adopted this specific exemption for their residents back in April. I am concerned: why is Yorktown not allowing this to be publicly addressed at a meeting? Since I haven’t heard anything concrete about addressing this publicly, I am putting it out here on a public forum to bring awareness to the community.
If you’ve had concerns in our town that haven’t been addressed openly, please feel free to share. This would benefit many residents financially, but the town would have to implement it. With the high cost of living, seniors are being pushed out of their homes because of town taxes. If builders and corporations get tax abatements and deals for their property, why shouldn’t seniors who worked all their life get the same perks? This needs to end.” Said Pervizi.
Kudos to the Town of Bedford Board and Supervisor Ellen Calves, who recently expanded its top-tier exemption tier up to a 65% reduction in assessed property value for qualifying low-income seniors (sliding scale down to 5%).Income Ceilings: Eligibility follows a sliding scale, with a maximum income cap of $58,400 (where the minimum 5% exemption applies) and maximum relief reserved for lower thresholds (under $50,000).

However, rising property costs can become a challenge for some homeowners, especially older adults living on fixed incomes. Discussions about senior property tax relief raise important questions about housing affordability, Retirement security, Funding for local services, and community needs.
We thank Pervizi for trying to help keep seniors in their homes, and we believe that ANY senior who wants to stay in their home in Westchester should pay NO PROPERTY TAXES.
