The Yonkers Guardians high school varsity football team played their first ever game at Roosevelt High School on Sept. 4, and came away with a dominating 33-14 win over Mt. St. Michael’s Academy.
Kudos to Guardians coach Doug Hogue for having his team ready to play from the opening kick off.
Congratulations to Yordy Diaz (special teams), Thomas Deddle (defensive) and Brendan Mulvihill (overall and offensive) for being selected the Yonkers Guardians Football Players of the Game.
Brendan Mulvihill stood out on offense for the Guardians, rushing for 187 yards and passing for 72 yards.
Next up for the Guardians is Scarsdale High school. We will give you the recap of that game next week.
Note: In a previous issue, we had a complaint with the decision not to field two Varsity Football teams in Yonkers this year.
We have read several reports of high school football teams in our area having to cancel their football for the year because of a lack of players.
This appears to have been part of the reason for a merger into the Guardians for this year.
