Generations of Irish immigrants arriving in the United States stepped into public service — particularly the NYPD and FDNY — and it became a proud and important career path, providing an opportunity to build a life in America while serving the communities they called home.
That tradition is personal to me as well. Generations of my own family proudly served New York City as NYPD officers and detectives, which makes being able to help bring this event to a wider audience especially meaningful.

Police Officer Riku Sawai, who is battling Stage 4 stomach cancer.
Lt. Thomas Fitzpatrick, L-4, who was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently battling the disease.
