I am heartbroken by the tragic incident of gun violence that occurred overnight in our city, particularly because it involved so many young lives. My deepest condolences are with the family, mourning the loss of a loved one, and I am praying for the full recovery of those who were injured. No family should ever have to endure this kind of heartbreak, and no community should have to witness such a
senseless act of violence.
Incidents like this leave lasting scars not only on those directly affected, but on our entire community. I stand with those who are grieving and with the first responders, medical professionals, and others who have worked through the night to care for the victims and support their families.
I thank the Yonkers Police Department for their swift response, for an arrest at the scene, and for recovering the weapon involved. To reassure our residents, police have confirmed this was a targeted incident, and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers will maintain a strong presence in the area as the investigation continues.
As our community mourns, we must also reaffirm our commitment to working together to prevent violence and create safer neighborhoods where every young person can grow, thrive, and feel secure. In this difficult time, let us keep the victims and their loved ones in our thoughts, support one another, and remain united in our resolve to build a safer future for all.
Like many of you, I grew up in this City; I have a son the same age as one of the victims! THESE ARE OUR CHILDREN!! Tonight, I’m asking every Yonkers resident to hold this grieving family in your prayers, to cooperate with investigators if you have any information, and more importantly, to reject any thought of retaliation.
