Governor Hochul’s Reforms Could Put $200+ Back Into New York Drivers’ Pockets Each Year

Coach USA today staged a rolling demonstration around the New York State Capitol, sounding bus horns in a coordinated “Honk Around the Capitol” action to call attention to the urgent need for auto insurance reform for fleet companies and everyday drivers. The event, held along the Capitol Loop, brought together company representatives and drivers to highlight the growing financial strain facing transportation providers across the state.

Multiple Coach USA buses circled the Capitol, creating a highly visible and audible display aimed at urging lawmakers to pass Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposed auto insurance reforms in the state budget that will put hundreds of dollars in the pockets of policyholders.

“Skyrocketing insurance costs are putting increasing pressure on bus operations, our workforce, and the riders who depend on reliable transportation across New York State,” said Dan Rodriguez, Vice President of Public Affairs at Coach USA. “Meaningful reform could put approximately $200 back into policyholders’ pockets, and today’s demonstration underscores the urgency of getting that relief to New Yorkers while protecting the future of transportation in our state.”

Escalating premiums have become a significant burden for bus operators statewide, impacting affordability and service delivery. Advocates say reform is critical to ensuring the continued viability of the industry and maintaining access for communities that rely on bus transit.

Coach USA called on state lawmakers to act swiftly to address the issue and incorporate comprehensive insurance reform measures into the final state budget.
