When the weather is great, there is no place better to watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade than Yonkers. Yes, New York City is the King of all St. Patrick’s Day parades, and rightfully so. But in Yonkers, you have all of the pieces of a great parade; marchers, pipers, bands, Irish Wolfhounds.
For some time, the Pearl River St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Rockland has been known in Irish-American circles as the 2nd best parade. I have attended and have enjoyed them all.
But Pearl River doesn’t have the cozy feeling that McLean Avenue provides the Yonkers Parade. You can watch the parade and have a drink, or a bite to eat, from any number of venues.
So let it be known, it’s official. The Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade has climbed to #2. Watch out NYC.
