February marks Heart Health Month, reminding us to prioritize our cardiovascular wellness. On Feb. 6, Wear Red Day, City Hall employees including Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy, honored those affected by heart disease while raising awareness about prevention and healthy living.
To raise awareness of the fight against cardiovascular disease in women – their number one killer — people from coast to coast will wore red and landmarks across the U.S. will illuminate in support of National Wear Red Day®, February 6, 2026.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, accounting for more than 314,000 deaths a year, or about one in every five female deaths. Yet heart disease very often can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.
The American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women in the U.S. and around the globe.
