Down the Middle: No BS, Just the Facts

Mr. Murphy:

I am an avid reader of Westchester Rising and Yonkerstimes.com. I enjoy your commentary and appreciate you willingness to report on both sides of our politics. A also enjoy your columnists who share that perspective like Eric Schoen and Stephen Rolandi.
May I suggest that I write a montly column titled, Down the Middle: No BS, Just the Facts? I would include two items in each column, one from the progressive democratic perspective and one from the MAGA point of view.

Here is my first story if you agree to print:

Wallmart Thanksgiving Dinner Cheaper than Last Year

Walmart announced the return of its beloved annual Thanksgiving meal, with its best offer yet. This incredible basket offers over 20 national and private brand items — including a Butterball turkey for $.97 per pound, its lowest price since 2019 — as a one-click basket serving 10 people for less than $40. It’s also offering free express delivery on the meal basket for first-time Pickup and Delivery customers.
This year, Walmart is raising the standard even higher — with the most affordable holiday meal yet. Walmart’s 2025 abundant meal basket offers traditional favorites across national and private brands, for a full holiday feast serving 10 people for under $4.00 per person — the lowest price since Walmart started the program!

“We know every dollar and minute counts – which is why we are offering a low priced, one-click Thanksgiving Meal Basket featuring iconic brands like Butterball and Stove Top alongside trusted Walmart private brand items. We want every family to be able to share a meal and celebrate without compromising on quality, quantity or tradition”, said John Furner President and CEO, Walmart U.S.

So some items have gone down in pricing since Trump took office.

President Obama Surprises Veterans on Flight to DC.

Every Veterans Day, the non profit Honor Flight Network provides free, all-expenses-paid trips to fly U.S. military veterans — especially WWII, Korean War, and terminally ill veterans from any era — to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor.

One of this year’s 2025 Honor flights from Wisconsin had a special guest. Former President Obama addressed the Veterans via intercom, handed out Presidential Challenge Coins, and shook hands with all 87 aboard, leaving many emotional ahead of Veterans Day.

This was a simple, kind gesture, that we appreciate.
