The polls just closed in Yonkers. No matter what happens with the outcome it is not the most important thing that happened to me this week. On Saturday morning I had a heart attack while getting ready to go canvassing.
Thankfully my running mate Corazon Pineda Issac had the presence of mind to call 911 while my wife Dr.Beth Schorr Lesnick, a Gastroenterologist at Westchester Medical Center “WMC” lined up the fantastic staff at WMC to take me into surgery as soon as I arrived by transport vehicle.
I had a stent put in the artery to my heart and have spent the past few days recuperating and thinking about my health, my family, my community and my country. I believe that this incident is similar to the one that Senator Bernie Sanders had in 2019 which caused him to slow down and eventually build back his strength to the vibrant state he remains at today.
I was released from the hospital earlier today and will recover at home. Assuming that I am victorious tonight, I will campaign for the November Election and will serve if I am elected.
I want to thank everyone from my team that has pitched in extra during the past few days, the candidates who put themselves forward to run and serve our communities and the voters who braved the scorching heat to participate in the process.
Corazon means heart in Spanish. She certainly saved mine.
