Battle of the Boroughs: Yonkers Edition Sat. May 24

Brings Olympic-Level Breakin’ to Yonkers May 24-Free Event

The rhythm, athleticism, and raw energy of Breakin’ will ignite the floor at the Battle of the Boroughs: Yokers Edition on Saturday, May 24, 2025, 1PM-6 PM, at the Montessori School 27 Gymnasium,132 Valentine Lane.

This high-energy event features youth and adult Breakin’(breakdancing) competitions with $3,000 in cash prizes (12-Under, 15-Under, & Adults). Dancers from Westchester County, across the five boroughs, and beyond, will display their skills in a celebration of a dance form that has earned a place on the global stage at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The event will also showcase local youth performances and feature special appearances by legendary groups, including the pioneering group that performed for President Ronald Reagan’s inaugural gala in 1985, the iconic New York City Breakers led by Yonkers’ resident London Reyes. These are only a few of the legends who will be present, expect more surprise appearances and tributes throughout the day.

This fun, family-friendly event will also include vendors selling Hip Hop-inspired products, including apparel, art, and jewelry.

Admission is FREE and will happen from 1pm-6pm.

Remember that Breakdancing is now an Olympic sport. The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics included the art-sport Breaking, or Breakdancing, for the first time.

And Yonkers has one of the members of the New York City Breakers, one of the first Breaking groups in the country. London Reyes is organizing this event and is on the lookout for the next Breakin star and maybe Olympian.

“We couldn’t be prouder of this milestone for our art form. Breaking has come a long way, and it’s truly an honor to see it recognized on such a prestigious platform. We want to express our deepest gratitude to the new generation of b-boys & b-girls who have elevated this dance and kept breaking alive. Your passion, dedication, and creativity are the driving forces behind this historic achievement,” said Reyes who is co-founder of the AAA All Stars, a non-profit that helps young people focus on academics, athletics and the arts.
