Local governments in Westchester are in the process of reviewing and adopting budgets for the 2025 year. In Yorktown, the Town Board recently reduced Supervisor Ed Lachterman’s proposed tax increase for Yorktown’s 2025 budget from 8.6% to 6.6%, still over the tax cap and the highest property tax increase
from local governments in Westchester to date.

The vote for the budget was 3-2 with Lachterman, and Town Board members Susan Siegel and Patrick Murphy voting yes, and Town Board members Sergio Esposito and Luciana Haughwout voting no. While Esposito and Haughwout voted no on the budget, both voted yes on overriding the tax cap, which was a

unanimous 5-0 vote. While Esposito and Haughwout are up for reelection next year, and that is perhaps the reason they didn’t want to vote for a 6.6% tax increase, Supervisor Lachterman, also up for reelection voted yes for the large tax increase, which has some in Yorktown wondering why?

“Could a Supervisor vote no on his own budget plan?,” asked one town resident. “Or does Ed know that he is running without opposition next year?”

Yorktown Demcorats have yet to announce who their candidates will be for Town Board and Supervisor yet, but have less than two months to do so. “I sure hope the Yorktown Democrats put up someone to run because I am disappointed in the so called fi scal-conservative republicans on the Town Board,” said another town resident.”

Other local government 2025 budgets include:

North Castle-0% Tax Increase. The Town Board and Supervisor Joseph Rende are expected to adopt a $42.6 Million 2025 budget that increases spending by 3.2%, but does not increase taxes. The Town will use $4.1 Million in fund balance to give the residents a holiday gift or no new property taxes for the fourth straight year.

Peekskill-The City of Peekskill adopted a $55 Million budget with a 3.5% tax increase that exceeds the tax cap. Included in the budget is more than a half million dollars in revenues from cannabis dispensaries in the city.

Harrison-The Town of Harrison ‘s 2025 $50 Million budget has a tax increase of 1.3%, under the tax cap.

Mt. Vernon–The City Council and Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard have proposed a 2025 budget iwth a 5% property tax increase, 2% over the tax cap.

Eastchester–Homeowners in the Town of Eastchester, not including Bronxville or Tuckahoe, will see a 1% property tax increase (actually 0.97%) next year.

Westchester-County Executive George Latimer has proposed a $2.5 Billion budget plan for 2025 that does not increase the tax levy.
