Three Westchester Locations
New York Blood Center (NYBC) will be hosting a day of service to encourage New Yorkers to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 by giving back to the community. New Yorkers are encouraged to donate blood, volunteer at a blood drive, or sign up to host a blood drive at various locations across the region.
September 11th is recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, and each year, communities across New York pay tribute to the victims of the 9/11 attacks through lifesaving blood donations. Hospitals and patients rely upon a steady flow of volunteer donors, but the past few years have brought chronic blood shortages nationwide. One blood donation has the ability to save up to three lives.
“New Yorkers have always come together to give back to their communities and help their neighbors. We encourage folks to continue this annual day of service in loving memory of those who tragically lost their lives twenty-three years ago,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Vice President of New York Blood Center. “This September, New York Blood Center is calling on all eligible blood donors to give blood to ensure lifesaving supplies are available for those in need.”
NYBC has 20 area donor centers and hosts blood drives across the region every day. Blood donors can find their nearest donor center listed here. NYBC will also host the following blood drives on Wednesday, September 11th:
