Myra Manu Wins Yonkers Spelling Bee

We Have a W-I-N-N-E-R! If you ask Kahlil Gibran School 5th grader Myra P. Manu (#38) to spell SUCCESS, don’t be surprised to hear the letters C-O-N-S-C-I-E-N-C-E which she pronounced in the correct order to win the 58h annual Citywide Fifth Grade Spelling Bee at Saunders Trades & Technical High School, Monday, June 3, 2024

Second place honors went to Tevin Robinson, School 16 (#11), and third place went to Elijah S. Carrington, Paideia School 24 (#47). Congratulations to them, their teachers & their loving families!

Sponsored by the Exchange Club of Yonkers in association with Yonkers Public Schools, the Fifth Grade Spelling Bee has been a tradition for nearly six decades, involving thousands of children in classroom and schoolwide elimination contests as they move up to the Citywide Finals. This year, 65 public and parochial school students earned the right to compete for honors.

Special thanks to Mr. Justin Tubiolo Exchange Club of Yonkers Board Member, Dr. Alyssa Colón-Garcia, Executive Director of English Language Arts, the pronouncer for the Spelling Bee, and Dr. Jane Dorian, long-time consultant.
