Congratulations to Nick Gargiulo, a graduate of Somers High School, for being selected in the recent NFL draft. Gargiulo, a 6’5″, 318 pound offensive lineman, was drafted in the 7th round by the Denver Broncos, with the 256th overall pick.
Gargiulo started his college career at Yale, but then tranferred to South Carolina for his senior year. He started all 12 games for South Carolina in two offensive lineman positions, center and left guard. He was a team captain for both Yale and South Carolina, and was named third-team all SEC in 2023.
A scouting report for Gargiulo before the draft said, “Gargiulo is athletic, with great strength, good hands and footwork in addition to his useful wingspan. He’s versatile position-wise, with solid body control and coordination. He has the size, length and play strength for center/guard roster flexibility.”
“I am excited for the opportunity to play for such a great franchise,” Gargiulo said. “Regardless of when my name was called, I am really thankful to them for the opportunity.”
At Somers HIgh School, Gargiulo was a member of the 2016 Tuskers team that won the State Championship for the first time under legendary coach Tony DeMatteo.
