Former Congressman Jolly: McCarthy Will Not Become Speaker, Will Resign by the End of ’23

By Dan Murphy

Former republican congressman David Jolly said on MSNBC’s Deadline White House show with Nicole Wallace that House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy will not become the next Speaker of the House, and that McCarthy will resign his House seat by the end of 2023.

Jolly made the comments shortly after McCarthy lost a second vote on the House floor, falling short of the 218 votes needed to be elected Speaker.

“There are three scenarios. The first one is becoming increasingly unlikely, which is House republicans retreat behind closed doors and Kevin McCarthy makes some final deal. I think that deal will be give all the rebels everything they want, they can declare victory and Kevin McCarthy can declare unity….I think there are too many egos involved.”

“The second scenario is that Steve Scalise or possibly Richard Hudson, Elise Stefanik, who is next in line to get to 218. Scenario three takes us into next week…where democrats come into play. Where republicans themselves can’t get to 218, and so democrats decide, are there 50 or 75 of our members who would give their vote to some type of unity candidate for Speaker. That might be a great moment for our country.”

Jolly has sought out bi-partisan solutions when he recently served as the National Chairman for SAM, Serve America Movement, a non-partisan political group before SAM recently merged with the Forward Party.

Jolly continued by predicting the Congressman Jim Jordan would “never be elected Speaker,” and that Kevin McCarthy has lost his opportunity to become speaker. “There’s nothing left Kevin McCarthy can do. He’s done,” Tweeted Jolly who added on Deadline White House that after failing to win the Speakership, “McCarthy will resign his seat by the end of the year.”

And after former President Donald Trump did not give McCarthy a vote of confidence, only saying that “We shall see what happens,” Jolly tweeted “McCarthy done done.”

Jolly, as always, spoke the truth, regardless of where the chips fall.
