AOC Asks Senators Collins, Murkowski and Mansion About Justice Kavanaugh
Hollywood Reporter columnist Scott Feinberg began the blame game for the overturning of Roe v Wade, when he Tweeted, “RBG was a hero for many reasons. But the terrible irony is that her decision to stay too long at the party helped lead to the destruction of one of the things she cared about the most. Sadly, this will be a big part of her legacy.”
Feinberg’s suggestion is that RBG should have stepped down early in President Obama’s second term. This would have provided Obama, and the democrats the chance to replace Justice Ginsberg with another liberal who would support Roe vs Wade.
Another suggestion from the angry mob on social media? Susan Sarandon is to blame for the reversal of Roe. This claim dates back to 2016, when Sarandon, a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President, said, she wasn’t sure that she could vote for Hillary if Bernie was not the nominee, adding that Trump “will bring the revolution immediately.”
She also said if Hillary was elected, “we would be at war with Iran in two seconds.” And finally, when it was Hillary vs Trump in October of 2016, Sarandon endorsed Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein.
So, the theory goes that if Hillary were elected in 2016, Trump would not have had the three supreme court nominees who ended up Supreme Court Justices, named Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Coney Barrett.
NY Congressmember Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, AOC, attended a rally in Union Square, NYC, on June 24 after the USSC overturned Roe v Wade. During the rally, AOC spoke about how she was raped when she was “about 22 or 23 when I was living in New York City. I felt completely alone… I thought then at least I have a choice. I didn’t know then, that it (pregnancy test) would come up negative but it doesn’t matter.”
AOC also Tweeted, “We should hear from Senators Murkowski, Collins, and Manchin if they believe there should be any consequences at all for misleading members of the US Senate in order to secure a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land. Otherwise Roe’s undoing is their legacy too.”
The three senators called out by AOC believed Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Conet Barrett when they implied that they would not overturn Roe. Senator Collins, from Maine, is the one taking the most heat on social media.
Former Senator Al Franken Tweeted, “Susan Collins still insists that Gorsuch & Kavanaugh misled (fooled) her. Look, I’m not a lawyer, but I played one in a sketch, & I can tell you that I (and everyone) knew that the Supreme Court can overturn precedent. Oh, and that they were lying. #RoeVsWade“
Blaming RBG makes the least amount of sense to me. Even if she did retire early, allowing Obama to make another appointment, would have given supporters of Roe on the court another vote. But Roe was overturned by a 6-3 margin; with another vote it’s still 5-4 and overturned.
