Steve Bannon and Rachel Maddow Agree: McCarthy Wanted Trump to Resign After Jan. 6

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy will be the next Speaker of the House after the November 2022 elections…if he can keep his leadership post among the GOP. McCarthy is now taking heat from the left, Rachel Maddow, and from the right, Steve Bannon, over a new book which found an audio clip saying that he would ask former President Donald Trump to resign after the January 6 attacks on the US Capitol.

A new book, This Will Not Pass, by reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, includes an audio clip of a phone call that McCarthy made in the days after Jan. 6, 2021, in which he says, “it would be my recommendation that you (Trump) should resign.”

Prior to the audio clip being released to the media, McCarthy and his office have repeatedly denied the claim that he called for then President Trump to resign in his final days in office. “It appears not to be the truth coming from McCarthy. He infact said exactly that,” said MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, during an interview of the authors.

“What this moment captures is just a staggering gulf between what republican leaders say to trump in public and what they say about him in private,” said Author Burns.

Martin said that they have more salacious recordings coming. “This is only the start. We have captured intimate conversations on tap. There is much more to come. McCarthy was looking for a way out and thought Trump was toxic. But the members of his caucus did non want to move on the President. And McCarthy is down at Mara Lago by the end of the month fixing the relationship?”

Some may think that negative press against McCarthy from Maddow and the left is nothing knew, Trump campaign chairman and podcast host Steve Bannon also attacked McCarthy. “Did he bring respect to Donald Trump?” asked Bannon on his podcast, in which he aired parts of the Rachel Maddown interview of Martin and Burns, and another MSNBC discussion with former republican Congressman and MSNBC analyst David Jolly.

“Its clear that obvious that Kevin McCarthy has lied to his leadership team, the former president, the press and the american people, and his second attempt at becomng speaker is in jeopardy.” said Jolly, who now serves as the National Chairman of SAM (Serve America Movement).

Another audio clip of Kevin McCarthy in the days after Jan. 6 include, “I’ve had it with this guy. What he did is unacceptable.”

“Fox is not playing this,” said Bannon. “They are part of the system and trading A few brave sites are playing what MSNBC is playing. Start supporting candidates who are full MAGA and who have always supported President Trump.”

No word on where the audio tapes came from, or who gave it to Burns and Martin for their book.
