American author Nathaniel Hawthorne is known for the quote,“ Families are always rising and falling in America.” Many of us have gone through tough times during two years of COVID, including Yonkers based singer, actree and songwriter Mary J. Blige, who was the only woman to perform at Super Bown 56 on Feb. 13.

After her performance, which many are calling among her best, and a new studio album recently released, titled, “Good Morning Gorgeous,” Blige’s career is on the rise. But as she explained in interviews before her performance with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar, the lead single from her 15th album titled “Rent Money” is personal.

Blige was forced to pay her ex-husband and former manager, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, $30,000 a month in alimony in 2017. “Rent money is [about] when I first got divorced. I had to give up all this alimony, and I had to go on tour, and make all the money back to pay. I didn’t have no money to pay my rent.”

Blige 51, is known as the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,” and her Super Bowl performance did not disappoint.
But she also dazzled fans with her bodysuit, which featured 10,000 Swarovski crystals, and was designed by Peter Dundas. Blige sang two of her old school classics, “Family Affair” and “No More Drama,” from 2001, at the halftime show at SoFi Stadium in LA.

The 9 time grammy winner has been getting nothing but praise for her performance and her outfit. Some delcaring that “she won” the rap battle for best Super Bowl performance. Regardless of who won, except for the Rams who won the game, Yonkers is proud!

After her performance, many posted on social media that Yonkers Own Mary J. Blige, took down the house. Another fan posted that “all of the performers can from poverty and they are on the biggest stage in the world tonight, including Mary J. All of them prove that you can overcome anything and to never give up.”

Her new album is tited “Good Morning Gorgeous.”
