The Palisade Prep Boys Basketball team finished second in the Yonkers City Tournament. In the first round game on Monday December 13th, the boys defeated cross town rival YMA by a final score of 78-40. Deneli McIntosh led the Phoenix with 17 points while Jalen Brown added 16 points and Louis Martinez added 15 points. The win advanced the fourth seeded Phoenix to face the number one seeded Yonkers Bulldogs in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals took place at Lincoln High School. The Phoenix won that match-up decidedly by a final score of 69-28. Deneli McIntosh again led the Phoenix in scoring netting 21 points. Jalen Brown added 16 points and Miguel Gonzalez added 13 points. All nine of the players on the Phoenix boys varsity team scored in the game.
The championship game pitted the Phoenix against the Roosevelt Sharks. After a back and forth first half which saw both teams go on huge runs. The Phoenix made runs to both start the came and second quarter but the Sharks countered with runs of their own. In the second half the Sharks outplayed the Phoenix and pulled away to win 56-36 and capture the city tournament title.
The next week the Phoenix had both of their games postponed due to covid issues. Now after a week of vacation the entire Yonkers Public Schools Athletics program’s are on a covid pause due to the rising number of cases in our school and community. The Phoenix will be back in action on Tuesday January 11th when they travel to Clarkstown South for a non-league match-up.
