Beacon Vape Store Hands Out Free Marijuana Joints…and Its Legal

As 10 Westchester communities have banned the upcoming sale of marijuana dispensiaries and cafes, a Vape store in Beacon, NY handed out free marijuana joints to any visitor to their store on Friday Aug. 27 and next Friday September 3, from 3pm-6pm for anyone over the age of 21.

Smokers Mecca in Beacon, located at 285 Main Street, is the location of the giveaway. “We’re just hoping people come in and say hi and get a little joint for free,” said Smokers Mecca owner Grant McCabe to the Albany-Times Union.

“I like doing wacky stuff… I just want to spread some good will and this seemed like a fun thing to do,” McCabe told WPDH Radio 101.5. “It’s something cool to do for our customers and the Hudson Valley.”

The marijuana joints are real, and because McCabe isn’t selling the pot, it is legal to share and give away, thanks to the legalization of marijuana in New York State in April 2021. Beacon resident Danielle Moses pointed out that the business decision is actually an intelligent way of getting the word out. “It’s a genius business move. Instead of spending tons on advertising, he is giving away free weed. The word will spread,” Moses told the Albany Times-Union,.

McCabe has already submitted for a recreational license to sell marijuana for his other business, The Leaf NY, located just down the road at 498 Main Street.

Business at Smoker’s Mecca took a hit once New York State made flavored vaping illegal, so McCabe is hoping that the joint giveaway will bring people to both of his stores to peruse and buy all of his other products.
