72-Year Old Man Indicted on 30 Counts of Possessiion of Child Sexual Abuse Material

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that a Long Island man was charged via a 30-count indictment for possessing child sexual abuse material. The defendant, Richard Heumann, 72, of New Hyde Park, was arraigned on Tuesday before Judge Robert Prisco in Westchester County Court for 30 counts of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, a Class E felony.

He pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance, as the charge is not bail-eligible under New York State Law. The defendant is due back in court on November 17, 2026.

DA Cacace said: “We will never turn a blind eye to the despicable actions of individuals who seek out, possess, or distribute child sexual abuse material. The defendant allegedly possessed a cache of illegal content, which not only contributed to the continued abuse and exploitation of real children, but compounded the devastating harm suffered by these young victims. This indictment underscores my office’s steadfast commitment to combatting this type of online depravity and ensuring those who exploit the vulnerable face the wrath of our criminal justice system.”

On Feb. 12, 2025, it is alleged that the defendant, while in White Plains, possessed 30 separate digital files depicting children under the age of 16 engaging in sexual conduct. The White Plains Police Department arrested the defendant at his Nassau County home on Dec. 17, 2025, following an investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Child Sex Abuse Material Bureau Chief Laura Forbes.

The charges against the defendant are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
