Councilwoman Shanae Williams has earned the support of Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union. With more than 300,000 members in the New York-metropolitan area, the union represents a large portion of the working families in Yonkers’ District 1.
The 1199SEIU and its members have an unmatched reputation in supporting candidates who advocate for workers and the issues important to them.
“I am honored to receive 1199SEIU’s endorsement,” said Williams. “I have been a friend of labor throughout my tenure on the City Council. I will continue to work with leaders like 1199 to protect workers in Yonkers. It is a privilege to have the support of an organization whose values so closely align with mine.”
As a family member of 1199ers, Williams has a connection with the union; she’s stood on picket lines and, with every opportunity, fought for the rights of workers.
“Our health care workers are looking for candidates who will work for their interests,” said Gabby Seay, 1199SEIU’s political director. “Shanae Williams is one of those people. On the Yonkers Council, she has been an asset to working families. We look forward to continuing our work with her.”
