$1.49 Per Gallon Gas & Camaro Raffle at Fuelco Opening Sat. June 26 in Valhalla

L-R Harrison Supervisor Ron Belmont; Westchester County Legislator Margaret Cunzio, Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins, Fuelco.com owner Adam Musa; Mount Pleasant Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi; and Fuelco.com general manager Bryan Orser

To celebrate this weekend’s “official” grand opening of the first of many Fuelco.com gasoline and Foodsmart market locations, the 21-year-old Harrison High School grad will sell gasoline at $1.49 a gallon and give away a 2021 Chevrolet SS Camaro.

The first Fuelco.com, located at 85 Virginia Road in Valhalla will celebrate its grand opening from Friday, June 25 to through Monday, June 28 beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The Camaro give away, deeply discounted gasoline, and other gifts and specials are available to anyone who downloads the Fuelco.com app. The weekend celebration includes fun activities, music, food, refreshments, and a classic car show by the Road Knights.

Musa says the Foodsmart store brand responds to evolving consumer tastes. “The world is changing. Diets are changing. Keto friendly, kosher, vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and other dietary restrictions have people transforming their diets. Unfortunately, most traditional convenience stores have not adapted.”

Musa wants to reinvent the convenience store concept to serve growing food preferences. “When I worked with my father and grandfather in their stores as a kid, the only choices were unhealthy snacks. With Foodsmart, I have 7-, 8-, 9-year-old kids ask me if a product is gluten free, kosher, or healthy.”

While Doritos, Coca-Cola, and Hershey bars were once top sellers, Foodsmart sales show that traditional snacks are outsold by Rhythm Broccoli Bites, Harvest Snaps Green Pea Crisps, Amphora Organic Dried Fruit, and other healthy snacks. The reason for these surging sales is Musa’s strategy of targeting dense residential areas and providing a 24/7 convenience store that mimics Trader Joes’ and Whole Foods’ offerings. Musa has an advantage over the larger specialty grocers, as the lower rent, real estate taxes, payroll and gas sales allow Foodsmart to sell healthy products for less.

The Camaro winner will be announced Saturday afternoon on WHUD. The winner will be selected from among patrons who download the Fuelco.com app. Anyone downloading the app will receive $5 in free gas and up to 50-cent per gallon discounts on future gasoline purchases. For full information go to Fuelco.com.

The $1.49 a gallon gas promotion will be in effect on Friday, June 25th and Saturday, June 26th from 10am to noon. The next Fuelco-Foodsmart location is set to open in July at 651 Bronx River Rd in Yonkers. Musa chose the location for its proximity to the Bronx River Parkway, nearby residential buildings, and Lawrence Hospital. Musa expects to open a third Fuelco at an undisclosed location in White Plains.

Representatives of Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital will be on site for the Valhalla Fuelco-Foodsmart ribbon cutting Friday, where they will be accepting a $10,000 donation as a thank you for welcoming Musa and the Foodsmart team to the community. Musa will also offer all hospital employees $5 of free gas as a thank you for their work during the pandemic.
