Yonkers Gets Funds for Old Croton Aqueduct-Trail Outreach

NYS Senate Majority Leader and Yonkers Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, pictured with Yonkers officials, and residents, announced, “I was privileged to join Parks and Trails New York as they presented a $24,875 grant to the Friends of Old Croton Aqueduct. The award will be used to expand outreach and community engagement in underserved and diverse communities by retaining a part-time outreach coordinator.

“This individual will engage Yonkers residents and partner with religious groups, boys and girls clubs, and nature groups for trail clean-ups, walks, tours and other events.

“The Old Croton Trail is a great historical and recreational resource for all of Westchester County, and expanding the Friends’ engagement efforts in Yonkers will go a long way to make the wonders of the Trail more visible to its residents,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins.

The Old Croton Aqueduct was a water distribution system used for New York City from 1840-1955. It now consists of a 26-mile trail through Westchester County, and is supported by a number of greenspace and historical advocates, including Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, https://aqueduct.org/.
