Very Few Protests in the Village; NY Republicans Chant for Trump-Stefanik 2024 Ticket

250 republicans from Westchester and New York State joined former President Donald Trump and Congresswoman Elyse Stefanik at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor June 6 to raise money for republican candidates for Congress this fall, in the hopes of the republican party taking control of the House of Representatives in 2022.

At the event, Trump embraced Stefanik and the two seemed comfortable and at ease together on the podium. And republicans in the crowd chanted “VP, VP” when before Stefanik, the #3 ranked House GOP member who represents upstate New York took to the podium.

The former President looked in good health as he took to the podium, dancing to YMCA, a familiar tune for his campaign. Trump made brief comments, supporting Stefanik and praising her take back the House of Representatives.

Trump then took questions from the audience for 45 minutes. No members of the media were allowed to attend, but one or two videos were posted on Instagram.

One NY Republican in attendance told us, “it was a postive event. the President and Congresswoman Stefanik looked great together, and everyone chanting VP, VP, thought the same thing. If I had to guess, it looked like he is ready to run again, and the word in the crowd was that he wants a woman on the ticket for 2024.”

Stefanik is helping the GOP effort to take the majority in the House, which democrats currently hold a slim 12 seat advantage. Six seats would be required to flip from Blue to Red in order to give republicans control and have Nancy Pelosi hand over the Speaker’s gavel to Kevin McCarthy.

In her comments, Stefanik went over a handful of congressional races in New York where republicans have a chance to flip, including two local congressional contests; in the 17th District, currently represented by democratic congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, and the 18th district, formerly held by democratic congressman Antonio Delgado, who is now Lt. Governor.

After the event, Stefanik Tweeted, “Amazing event tonight! We raised over 1 million dollars for our effort to flip the House, fire Nancy Pelosi and SAVE AMERICA! Thank you President Trump!”

Republicans have two announced candidates in the 17th District to challenge Maloney; Assemblyman Mike Lawler, who represents Rockland County in Albany, and Somers Councilmember Bill Faulkner. In the 18th District, Assemblyman Colin Schmitt will run for the GOP.

Schmitt and Lawler were in attendance, along with NY GOP candidates for Governor Rob Astorino and Andrew Giuliani, (with his father Rudy). Assemblymember Kevin Byrne and Westchester GOP Chair Doug Coletey also attended.

Trump has held four fundrasiers for Stefanik and the NRCC, three at The Mar a Lago Club, in Palm Beach, Flordia. When we asked another republican in attendance if republicans across the country would support a Trump-Stefanik tickets in 2024 considering that both are New Yorkers, he reminded me that “Trump moved to Florida.”

At one Mar a Lago event, Trump said of Stefanik, “I want to congratulate Elise on her success. Man is she moving fast. That means at this rate she’ll be President in about 6 years.”

Newsmax owner and friend of Trump Chris Ruddy said, “President Trump thinks very highly of Elise Stefanik. … She has been talked about in circles close to him as a potential vice presidential. And there’s a feeling among a lot of people on the Republican side that they need to have a woman on the ticket this time.”

Last year, Trump held a fund raiser at his Briarcliff club which included 100 protestors who occupied opposite sides of the street in support and opposition of Trump. Briarcliff police kept the protestors separated, including members of The Proud Boys who were supporting Trump.

At the June 6 event, there were less than a dozen protestors, with no incident, according to Briarcliff Police.

Stefanik was one of Trump’s strongest defenders during his impeachment in 2019 and in January 6, 2021 she voted no on certifying the 2020 election results.

Former Trump advisor Boris Epshteyn was at the fund raiser and said, “President Trump was in vintage form, and went through election integrity, the border, and how we need to bring honor, strength and America first back to The White House.”
