Editor’s Note: I had the pleasure of publishing columns from Peg Godfrey over the years. I also took many phone calls from her on WVOX radio. I enjoyed sharing her opinions with all of Westchester.

Margaret A. Godfrey “Peggy” a longtime resident in New Rochelle, died on September 2, 2026. She was 92.
Peggy was born on May 11, 1934 in Hartford, Ct to the late William Joseph and Filomena (Sauro) Godfrey. She was a caring and concerned person who was an educator in Elementary classrooms, Jr. High Math classes and College classes. Towards the end of her career, she supervised math teachers.
Peggy graduated from New Rochelle High School among the top 20 students in her class. She went on to receive her PhD in Educational Supervision from St. John’s University.
Peggy was politically active having served as a Republican District Leader, a former City Council Candidate and a frequent speaker at the City Council meetings. She conceived and founded the New Rochelle Reform Club.
Peggy was a writer who had many articles published in various magazines and an a letter in the New York Times.
She received awards from the EPA, was awarded CACER of the year at the annual Catholic Alumni Club convention and recognized in the Impact II Teacher Developed Program for her course at the JHS125 program called “Tailoring Mathematics Instruction.”
Peggy was the presenter at the annual meeting of the council of Teacher’s and Mathematicians.
She was devoted to worship in the Catholic Religion.
She is survived by her two sisters Patricia Godfrey and Joan Coviello; her brother Thomas Godfrey, several nieces, and several great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Godfrey and sister Mary(Godfrey) Sutton.
All are welcome to the funeral home before the mass from 9-10am.
The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Holy Name of Jesus Church at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
