Cindy Smith, director of the food pantry at St. Mary’s Mohegan Lake, was named a Woman of Distinction in the 94th Assembly District for her food-insecurity work.

The Community Food Pantry at St. Mary’s Mohegan Lake is a grassroots, all-volunteer, interfaith service that has been in operation almost 40 years.

“She does a wonderful job, and she assists all the other food pantries—and they assist her—in providing food for our needy residents,” said Supervisor Tom Diana.

Women of Distinction is an initiative of the New York State Assembly and Smith’s name was submitted to Assemblyman Matt Slater by the Town of Yorktown.

The food pantry provides emergency and supplemental food, information, and referral sources to its patrons. The pantry distributes food on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pre-packed emergency bags are available Tuesday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
