Yonkers Welcomes New Superintendent

YPS Superintendent Anabal Soler Jr ,2nd right,. visited students at the Barack Obama School for Social Justice

Superintendent of Schools Anibal Soler, Jr. set the tone for the week as he toured the Barack Obama School for Social Justice for students in grades 7-12 and neighboring school Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy for students in grades PreK-8. #Dash, the robot students are learning to program and control, greeted him at MLKA.

Soler also thanked the 2,000 teachers in the YPS for teacher appreciation week. “Thank you for your countless time and effort that you put in into our kids and our district. Nothing hapens in Yonkers without the dedicated teachers and staff that we have. This is your week and I hope you feel appreciated.”

Soler also joined with 1,500 YPS Students who attended the Annual Holocaust Remembrance. The 5th – 12th grade students heard from children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors during the Yonkers Public Schools Annual Holocaust Remembrance, held this year at the Lincoln Park Jewish Center. The Holocaust and Human Rights Center in White Plains collaborates with the District in presenting the program. Soler joined the students today to hear testimony.

Soler’s first stated meeting of the Board of Education will be on May 15, and at that meeting the trustees and Soler will begin their dicussions on a budget for the 20245-25 school year.
