Yonkers Track Stars Win Medals; Touba Headed to State Championship

On Saturday, February 5th, the Yonkers Track Team participated in Class AA Championships at the Armory Track in Manhattan. Junior, Ben Domingo ran the 55 meter hurdles earning a time of 8.30 in the preliminary round to make the finals. In the finals, Domingo ran a new personal best of 8.25 seconds to earn second place and a silver medal for Yonkers. Seniors, Derrick Touba and Toluwani Alao, ran the 55 meter dash, Touba earned a time of 6.76 in the preliminaries while Alao earned a time of 6.86, both qualifying for the finals. Touba in the finals ran 6.69, a new personal best to earn second and take home a silver medal. Alao went on to place 7th in the finals with a time of 6.90. 

On Sunday, February 20th the Yonkers Track Team participated in Section 1 State Qualifiers at the Armory Track in Manhattan. Captain, Derrick Touba qualified for New York State Championships in the 55 meter dash. Touba ran a time of 6.77 in his preliminary heat to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Touba placed first overall with a time of 6.66 to earn a gold medal, and qualify for State Championships, which will take place on March 5th at Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex.

Junior, Ben Domingo ran the 55 meter hurdles, in the preliminaries he tied his personal best of 8.25, placing first in his heat to qualify for finals. Domingo in the finals ran a new personal best of 8.21, placing third in the finals and by 2 hundredths of a second missed qualifying for States. However, he earned a bronze medal for his performance.
