Congratulations to Yonkers native Gavin Heslop, who is coming home this year to play for the NY Giants football team. Heslop played his high school football at Stepinac High School, and in college for SUNY Stonybrook.
He was not selected in the NFL Draft but was signed to the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks in Sept. 2020. In 2021, Heslop was elevated to the Seahwaks football team and played in three game before getting injured.
On July 22, Heslop got the good news, which was posted online, “The Giants today made what could be their final their final pre-training camp roster move, exchanging an offensive lineman for a cornerback. He will play for the Giants new coach Brian Daboll.
The Yonkers native received congratulations from –generation Yonkers, who Tweeted, “Congratulations to Yonkers native@G_smoove5 for signing with the giants- The former Stepinac star has made a comeback after suffering a leg injury last season while he played for the Seattle Seahawks. We are excited to see Gavin back on the field! Lets Go Giants”
Stepinac High School Tweeted, “41 Days till Opening Day- Good Luck & Welcome Home to Gavin Heslop. in 2014 Gavin Heslop helped Stepinac win the CHSFL AAA Championship. After a great career at StonyBrook, Gavin suffered a terrible injury last year to end his season & two years career with Seahawks.-stepinac tweeted–@G_smoove5.”
