As Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts in Yonkers resumes its normal operating hours, many employees took a break from their work to bring some happiness to Yonkers seniors who have been homebound for more than a year as a result of the pandemic.
Empire City Casino is partnering with the Yonkers Office of the Aging and Catholic Charities to send birthday cards for Yonkers Senior Citizens who themselves in social isolation. Empire City just launched a new monthly “Birthday Cards for Seniors” program for Empire City employees to offer kind words and some warm birthday wishes for their neighbors.
During the last week of each month, Empire City employees will write out birthday wishes that will then be sent to seniors through the partner organizations. Volunteerism is one of the pillars of MGM Resorts’ CSR initiatives with a goal of surpassing more than one million cumulative volunteer hours in the next few years.
The first batch of 60 Birthday cards were completed on April 9, as MGM Resorts Northeast Group President Chris Kelley and SVP/CFO Ed Domingo did their part. If you know of a Yonkers senior who could use some cheer email us at dmurphy@risingmediagroup.com.
