The Yonkers Republican committee held its convention last week and made nominations for the City Council and County Board of Legislators. Retired Yonkers Police Officer Dean Politopolous was nominated by the GOP to run for City Council President. He defeated Ron Schutte at the convention, but Schutte is expected to challenge Dean in a Republican primary in June if both collect the 900 valid signatures required to get on the ballot.
City Councilman Anthony Merante was also nominated for City Council in the 6th District. Merante will be seeking his third term and will face off against democrat Tim Hodges in a rematch from four years ago.
Local businessman Tony Solieri was nominated to run against Councilman John Rubbo in the 4th Council District. The Westchester GOP nominated firefighter Michael Pineda to Challenge Westchester County Legislator David Tubiolo in the 14th District.
