Yonkers Remembers, 20 Years Later, on September 11, 2021, photos by Donna Davis

On Saturday, September 11, 2020, Mayor Mike Spano joined with the Yonkers community to remember and honor the 26 Yonkers residents who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The solemn ceremonies were held at the City’s two September 11 memorials; At the Yonkers 9/11 Waterfront Memorial on the downtown waterfront, and at Conor Park’s 9/11 Monument, where the City dedicated a monument derived from a 38-foot, 4,000 lb. piece of World Trade Center steel.

The City also announced the addition of two new memorials at the monuments that will forever recognize the lives lost due to the impacts of September 11, 2001.

Thanks to Donna Davis for these photos, which show the new remembrance for those lost in the years after 9/11/01, Yonkers Police Officer Arisa playing Taps, and the ringing of the bell for those lost, with the Hudson River as a backdrop with views of where the attacks on the World Trade Center took place at the Yonkers riverfront memorial.
