James Morris, arrested for attempted murder
Just after 5:30 pm on Friday, June 6th, 2025, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the area of 944 North Broadway on a report of shots fired.
Arriving units located several 9mm shell casings at the scene, confirming the original report. No one was struck by the gunfire, and no property damage was reported. The area was cordoned off, and the roadway was closed as Detectives from the Yonkers Police Major Case Squad, Digital Forensics Unit, and Crime Scene Unit responded to further investigate.
During the investigation, Detectives discovered surveillance video and witness accounts which confirmed that two males became involved in a dispute at a nearby office building. This dispute continued outside, at which point one male displayed a firearm and fired approximately three gunshots toward the other male, before fleeing the area.
Units canvassing for the shooter quickly located him on Executive Boulevard, a short distance away from the scene of the crime. He is identified as 34-year-old James MORRIS, of Yonkers. MORRIS was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree.
Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza stated, “A swift and decisive arrest was made following a reckless shooting near one of our city’s busiest medical corridors. Thanks to the relentless work of our Detectives and Patrol Officers, a dangerous individual is now off the streets. We will not tolerate this kind of violence in our communities—especially near places of care and healing.”
This case will be prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
NOTE: Booking charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
