Mayor Mike Spano with Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza , Assistant Chief Ralph Carozza, Sergeant Jason Manitsas, and 14 new probationery Yonkers police officers
On Jan. 5, 2024, Mayor Mike Spano and Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza welcomed 14 new Probationary Police Officers to the Yonkers Police Department. The ceremony took place in the Ceremonial Courtroom inside Yonkers City Hall with dignitaries, family, and friends in attendance.
In addition, two existing members were recognized for their past appointments and promotions to ranks of higher responsibility within the department.

Assistant Chief Carozza is assigned as the Commanding Officer of the newly formed Special Operations Division.
Among the 14 new Officers, five join the Yonkers Police Department from neighboring jurisdictions. These five Officers will attend a truncated orientation before entering the Field Training Program to acquaint them with Yonkers Police Department operations. The remaining new Officers will enter the Westchester County Police Academy next week, where their training will continue for the next several months.
