Yonkers Police Charge Local Man With Murder

FIDENCIO ABREU

On Friday, July 11th, 2025, at approximately 2:30 AM, the Yonkers Police Department responded to reports of a male shot in the area of Ludlow Street and Riverdale Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with a single gunshot wound to the head at the location. Officers and other first responders immediately began rendering aid to the victim and transported him to a local area hospital. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, in conjunction with the Digital Forensics Unit, and Crime Scene Unit, responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect and victim were known to each other and engaged in a dispute at the location, which resulted in the suspect firing one shot at the victim before fleeing the area. Through the combined efforts of Yonkers detectives, patrol units, and the Yonkers Crime Control Center, investigators were led to an apartment near the intersection of Radford Street and Riverdale Avenue where a male suspect was successfully taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect is identified as FIDENCIO ABREU, a 41-year-old Yonkers resident. ABREU was arraigned in Westchester County Court on one count of Murder in the 2nd Degree, an A1 Felony in the New York State Penal Law, and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. ABREU was remanded to the Westchester County Jail, where he is being held without bail. ABREU is due back in court on July 17th, 2025. The victim is identified as Francisco Vallejo, a 35-year-old Yonkers resident.

Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza stated, “Our hearts go out to the family of Francisco Vallejo during this incredibly difficult time. We are committed to the safety of our Yonkers community, and this rapid arrest demonstrates our unwavering resolve to hold accountable anyone who commits such a heinous act of violence.”

The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. Additional information may be released as it becomes available.

NOTE: Booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
