Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano welcomed members of all 10 City advisory boards to the first-ever Advisory Board Summit, titled Creating Synergy, bringing together community leaders, Mayor’s Liaisons, and City officials to strengthen collaboration and communication across boards. During Creating Synergy, members of every advisory board were sworn in, including the newest addition, the Muslim American Advisory Board.
“Yonkers is such a diverse community, we want our residents to have the opportunity to add their unique perspective when it comes to shaping our City,” said Mayor Spano. “Our Advisory Boards are the eyes and ears to the community, and everyone should have a seat at the table.”
The Mayor’s Advisory Boards provide on-the-ground insight from across the community, ensuring diverse voices and lived experiences help shape City policy and direction.
Appointed by Mayor Spano, the volunteer boards include the African American Advisory Board, Disability Advisory Board, Health Advisory Board, Hispanic Advisory Board, LGBTQ+ Advisory Board, Senior Advisory Board, Veterans Advisory Board, Women’s Advisory Board, Muslim American Advisory Board and the Yonkers Green City Advisory Committee. The first board, the Mayor’s African American Advisory Board, was established in 2014.
The summit also included a discussion of recent survey results completed by board members, which identified common themes of improved communication, collaboration, and a desire for greater impact.
