Clean Up of Old Croton Aqueduct Trail, April 25, 8:30AM-1PM

In celebration of Earth Week later this month, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and the Yonkers Parks Department today announced the City will host its annual Arbor Day tree plantings and clean-up of the Old Croton Aqueduct. Mayor Spano is encouraging community involvement for the purpose of beautifying and cleaning up local neighborhoods in the City of Yonkers as spring approaches.

“Each year I eagerly anticipate our community uniting in celebration of Earth Week—a time when neighbors, friends, and families come together to beautify Yonkers for Arbor Day and rejuvenate the Old Croton Aqueduct through volunteer clean-up efforts,” said Mayor Spano. “When we come together in service, we not only protect the character and vibrancy of Yonkers but also reinforce our shared responsibility to keep our city a wonderful place to live, work, and play.”

Residents are encouraged to join the City of Yonkers for the following Earth Week events:
Friday, April 24 – Arbor Day Tree Plantings
9:30AM Sullivan’s Oval Park (Spruce Street at Van Cortlandt Park Avenue)
10:30AM Lohrfink Park (Valley and Bolmer Avenue)
11:30AM First Police Precinct (730 East Grassy Sprain Road)

Saturday, April 25 – Clean-Up at the Old Croton Aqueduct

Residents are invited to join the City of Yonkers, Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, the New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, and community volunteers in beautifying the Yonkers section of the trail. Volunteers will meet at Walnut Street, just north of Yonkers Avenue, at 8:30AM.

The annual Clean-Up Day at the Old Croton Aqueduct will commence with a press conference at 9:00AM by Mayor Spano, followed by a community clean-up lasting until 1:00PM. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged by emailing parks@yonkersny.gov, calling (914) 377-6440, or registering on-site starting at 8:30AM.

For more information about the Clean-Up Day at the Old Croton Aqueduct in the City of Yonkers, contact the Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation at (914) 377-6450.

To ensure Yonkers remains clean following the clean-ups, Mayor Spano is also reminding residents to report any instances of illegal dumping to the City’s anti-dumping hotline by calling 914-377-DUMP. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for anyone who reports a case of illegal dumping that leads an arrest and conviction.
