Rami Ahmad
At approximately 7:45 AM on September 28, 2026, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to 102 Smart Avenue on a report of a stabbing. Responding Officers located an adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds. Officers and medical personnel immediately rendered aid, including CPR, before the victim was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as Hekmat Ahmad, 61, of Yonkers.
Detectives from the Yonkers Police Department Major Case Squad responded to the scene and began an investigation. Investigators determined that the victim had been inside his residence when he was attacked by a family member, identified as Rami Ahmad, 31, of Yonkers, who had left the location prior to the arrival of police.
A description of Rami Ahmad was immediately broadcast to responding personnel, and an extensive search was initiated involving members of the Yonkers Police Patrol Division, Emergency Service Unit, Detective Division, and neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Through the use of cameras and other investigative efforts, Officers developed information indicating that Rami Ahmad had been traveling northbound along the South County Trail. Numerous units responded to the area and continued the search.
At approximately 11:13 AM yesterday morning, Yonkers Police Detectives located Rami Ahmad in the area of Kingston Avenue and Palmer Road. Ahmad was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of responding Patrol Officers. A folding knife was recovered from his person.
Rami Ahmad has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree. This case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
Charges are accusations, and any suspects are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
