Yonkers Man Arrested for DWI with 4 Kids in the Car

On July 27, 2025, State Police of Tarrytown arrested Ruben M. Fernandez Urena, 34, of Yonkers. On July 27, 2025, at approximately 1:46 a.m., Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a gray Toyota on I-87 southbound near Exit 9 in the village of Tarrytown.

The operator, identified as Fernandez Urena, exhibited signs of intoxication while being interviewed by Troopers. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered, which Fernandez Urena failed. Further investigation revealed four children, ages 12, 11, 7, 5, were also present in the vehicle.

Fernandez Urena was arrested and transported to SP Tarrytown for processing, where he provided a breath sample with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.12%.

Fernandez Urena was charged with the following offenses:
Four counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Leandra’s Law) – Class E Felony
Driving While Intoxicated – 1st Offense
Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of 0.08% or Higher – 1st Offense
Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations.

Fernandez Urena was released to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Tarrytown Court on August 20, 2025.
