Fans and supporters of the Yonkers Force and the Yonkers Brave football teams came out to fill the stands at Roosevelt High School on October 22. And from the first play after the kickoff, the Force scored on a long touchdown pass from QB Atticus Oelkers to Angel Aquino and never looked back.
The final score was Force-64-Brave-8.
Force Coach Anthony Fava said that all of his players were able to get in the game, and that seven of the Senior leaders on the Force scored touchdowns.
The MVP of the game was Alvin Martinez, who is the second QB for the Force. Martinez scored three TD’s in the game, for a total of 16 for the year. After being injured last year, Martinez has made a remarkable comeback, and had 142 total yards in the game.
The Force led 48-8 at halftime and produced 468 yards for the game.
Oelkers had the most total yards for the Force, with 160 yards passing and 78 yard rushing.
The Force defense was tough, allowing only 61 total yards and generating five turnovers.
Despite the lopsided win, Fava and the Force congratulated the Brave on a hard fought game and for not giving up. “We’re two different teams, but we’re one city, and one family.
The District’s football teams merged in 2018.
Student athletes from Lincoln, Riverside, Saunders Trades & Technical High School, and Barack Obama School for Social Justice form Yonkers Brave
Student athletes from Gorton, Roosevelt, Yonkers Montessori Academy and Yonkers Middle High School form Yonkers Force.
The Force are now 3-5 and the Brave are still looking for their first win of the season.
