The Yonkers high school football season got off to a slow start Sept. 6. Both the Yonkers Force and the Yonkers Brave lost their first games of the 2019 season. The Force traveled to White Plains and lost by a score of 34-7, and the Yonkers Brave traveled to Mahopac where the team lost 34-0.

For Dan DeMatteo’s Yonkers Force, Tyler Hamilton had a nice game rushing for 78 yards on 17 carries. Elijah Morton also had 78 yards, on 10 carries. Adonnis Bennet had 36 yards on 6 carries. Quarterback Coby Frias had one touchdown pass to Justin Broquadio that covered 37 yards. Tyler Hamilton had one catch for 25 yards.

The Force plays Saturday, Sept. 14 in its home opener at the brand new Roosevelt H.S. turf field. Game time is 1:30 p.m.

Although the Brave lost to Mahopac H.S., Coach Vic Chiappa was happy with the effort. The team was down 27-0 at half-time but only gave up only 7 points in the second half.

“We were down 27-0 at the half and they still fought,” said Chiappa. “My boys never quit.”

The Brave play White Plains H.S. on Friday, Sept. 13 at White Plains. Game time is 6 p.m.
