Two major Yonkers fire unions have announced their endorsement of Democrat Frank Jereis for New York State Assembly District 90, giving his campaign an early boost as the race takes shape. Yonkers Fire Fighters Local 628 and Yonkers Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) formally endorsed Jereis this past week, citing his commitment to public safety, tier 6 reform, and securing additional state resources for the city.

Yonkers Fire Fighters Local 628 represents 342 firefighters who serve the City of Yonkers. Local 628 President Steven “Bubba” Philp said the union believes Frank Jereis is the right choice to represent Yonkers in Albany. “The choice for State Assembly District 90 is clear: Yonkers needs Frank Jereis in Albany,” Philp said. “Frank Jereis has the experience, determination, and commitment needed to be a strong advocate and fighter for the members of Local 628. He understands the urgent need for meaningful reform to Tier 6 and has made it a priority. Local 628 is fully committed to this campaign and will be actively engaged in helping elect Frank Jereis.”

The Yonkers Uniformed Fire Officers Association, which represents 132 fire chiefs, captains, and lieutenants who oversee both administrative and operational functions of the Yonkers Fire Department, also announced its support. UFOA President Captain Robert Clarke said Frank Jereis has demonstrated a clear understanding of the department’s needs.

“Yonkers UFOA strongly endorses Frank Jereis for State Assembly,” Clarke said. “Frank is someone we can count on to help secure additional state aid for the Yonkers Fire Department and bring about long-overdue reforms to Tier 6. We look forward to supporting him through the finish line this November.”

Frank Jereis said, “I am proud to have the support of the people who day in and day out risk their lives to protect others. I look forward to working closely with Local 628 and UFOA to secure additional State Aid for Yonkers and bring about much needed change to tier 6.”

The endorsements mark an early show of organized labor support in the race for Assembly District 90, with the general election scheduled for November.
