Congratulations to all the skaters from the Yonkers Figure Skating Club who just returned from competing at the ISI Worlds Recreational Championship in Boston. The Yonkers Club based at E.J. Murrays was represented by 14 skaters who made the trip along their with 4 coaches. The event drew nearly 3000 skaters from 76 teams located throughout the United States and six international teams from as far away as China.
The kids competed at various levels and included competitions in ice dancing, Freestyle, footwork, pairs and many others. The kids have been working with their coaches and practicing for months on their programs, choreography, music, dress and makeup. Just like the Olympics the kids skate in front of a panel of judges. The judges base their scores on specific quality criteria for each mandatory element and assess each skater’s skills and performance. Elements such as spins, jumps, and footwork are judged based on their levels of difficulty to ensure that skaters receive the appropriate and consistent credit for every element performed. In addition to the technical Score, the Judges will award points for the overall presentation of the performance which includes skating skills, transitions, performance, composition, and Interpretation of the music and timing.
The kids and parents enjoyed some create completion and comradery cheering each other on. A competitor’s cruise in Boston Harbour and a charity event headlined by Jason Brown ended the week. The kids did fantastic winning numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals. Please visit our website at www.yfsc.org
