Yonkers Eagle Scout Continues Service to Community

On April 17, Frank Hernandez Jr. of Troop 5 Yonkers worked on his Eagle Scout service project along with his fellow troop 5 Scouts, adult leaders, family and friends, at the Homefield House on Saw Mill River Road.

The project consisted of cleaning up the grounds, sanding and painting their benches, power washing two memorials, planting a pollination garden, adding solar powered spotlights to the memorials and adding solar powered walkway lights. It was a successful day with a lot of enthusiastic help.

Mayor Spano stopped by. Frankie has been looking up to him ever since he was a Cub Scout and seeing him at many events. We moved from Yonkers to the town of Poughkeepsie a few months ago to buy a house but Frankie continues to come down to Troop 5 continuing his Boy Scout journey.

Frankie is a 10th grader at Roy C. Ketchum high school in the Wappingers school district. Thanks to Scoutmaster Harold Thela of Troop 5 Yonkers for keeping this tradition allive. Visit their Facebook page, Boy Scout Troop 5 Yonkers NY.
