Cites Allegations by Female Emplyees & Calls on DA to Investigate Voter Intimidation by Khader Campaign

On January 27, 2021, Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader received the endorsement of the Yonkers Democratic Party, with 86% of the district leaders supporting his re-election. Now, less than five months after that evening, the Yonkers Democratic Party reconvened on June 16 and unanimously voted to pull their endorsement of Khader.

The reason? Allegations by a former staff member of Khader’s concerning fair and equal treatment of female employees in his office.

“In an unprecedented move the Yonkers Democratic Party withdrew its endorsement for incumbent City Council President Mike Khader. In a special meeting of the Executive Committee (the Ward Leaders and Elected Officers of the Party) last night, the discussion focused around national, state and local democratic positions that promote fair and equal treatment for all Americans and all workers and the committee expressed serious concern that these allegations were a contradiction to its core values as a party.

The committee voted unanimously to call for an investigation and by super majority to withdraw its endorsement of Khader,” stated a release by the Yonkers Democratic Party.

“These actions are not taken lightly, the committee discussed them for two hours before voting to pull its endorsement”, said Chairman Thomas Meier. “The Yonkers Democratic Committee is concerned enough about both allegations to withdraw its endorsement and call for investigations into the reported text messages to Executive Officers of the Party, members of the current administration, City employees and possibly others”.

YonkersTimes.com and Yonkers Rising has received calls and emails concerning claims by members of the Yonkers Democratic Party of harrassing and threatening texts concerning their decision to pull the nomination of Khader.

These “bullying tactics” as one Yonkers Democratic characterized the communications have become so concerning that the Executive Committee of the Yonkers Democratic Party voted unanimously to call on Westchester District Attorney Mimi Rocah to investigate allegations of voter intimidation by the Khader Campaign.

Other members of the Yonkers Democratic Party have called on the Khader Campaign to publicly condemn the actions of voter intimidation that his campaign staff has allegedly been engaging in.
