Yonkers City Clerk Vincent Spano Declares Victory Over Cancer

Yonkers City Clerk Vinny Spano

Yonkers City Clerk Vincent “Vinny” Spano announced today that after nearly a year of battling Stage 4 colon and liver cancer, his oncologist has confirmed there is no evidence of disease.

Spano’s fight has been intense and relentless. Since his diagnosis in November 2024, he has endured multiple liver surgeries, colon surgery, months of chemotherapy, and hepatic artery infusion treatments all while continuing to fulfill his duties as City Clerk.

“I just got the call no one fighting cancer ever forgets, there’s nothing left to treat,” said Spano. “The fight was exhausting, painful, and terrifying. But I never gave up. My wife Jaime and my sons, Vincent and Nico, carried me when I couldn’t stand, gave me strength when I had none left, and held me up through every dark night. Their love and faith kept me alive and focused every single day.”

Despite the grueling treatment, Spano remained active in his role as City Clerk, leading efforts to modernize the office, expand public access to city services, and continue serving the residents of Yonkers with dedication.

“The people of Yonkers reminded me why I fight,” Spano added. “I am endlessly grateful to my family, my friends, and the countless people from this community who sent prayers, checked in, and showed up for us every step of the way. Your support carried me through moments I didn’t think I could survive.”

Family Statement:

“This journey tested everything we had as a family,” said Jaime Spano. “We are humbled and grateful to our family, friends, and neighbors who lifted us up, supported Vinny, and kept hope alive. Today, we celebrate life, resilience, and the extraordinary people who make Yonkers feel like home.”

Spano and his family expressed profound gratitude to his medical team, friends, and the Yonkers community, and said they look forward to the future with renewed hope, strength, and energy to continue serving the city.
